Leaked specifications reveal that the Nexus 6 successor will feature a 5.7-inch 2K OLED display manufactured by Samsung with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor on the inside. The reports suggests that rumors of Samsung supplying the screen for Huawei’s Mate 8 phablet are likely to be true. The two devices are also likely to use identical displays. The decision to go with a 2K display comes as a surprise given that Huawei has been critical of giving consumers this level of resolution on smaller screens, expressing concerns over battery life and whether it can be viewed with the naked eye. Another surprise comes in the form of the handset’s chipset, with Huawei not using its own SoC for the release. The as-yet-unnamed Nexus device will not use Huawei’s Hi-Silicon Kirin chip but rather use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. It could be possible that Google demanded on using the Qualcomm product due to its good track record. The Nexus range of smartphones for the most part runs on the stock version of the Android operating system. Google is responsible for its software, while the hardware is created by an external manufacturer. Google did confess recently that not many units of its Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 products had been shipped as hoped, in spite the devices being well-received by critics and consumers. The upcoming collaboration with Huawei is like a ray of hope for Google to help it improve the range’s falling sales figures. There has been no official comments from neither Google nor Huawei on reports of a collaboration. The news of its confirmation is expected to likely arrive during the former’s I/O conference at the end of the month.
